Book fair in Karur receives good response

According to the footfalls, the Karur Book Fair had a positive response from the people. The book expo, which was organised by the Karur district administration in collaboration with the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India, the District Library, and the Reader's Circle at Thirumanilaiyur, was opened on Friday by Electricity Minister V. Senthil Balaji. The fair will run through August 29.

To meet the aspirations of all age groups, including children, students, and women, the expo features over 100 stalls with lakhs of books on display. The books on exhibit include comic novels, literature, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, and autobiographies. Various publishers and booksellers from across the state have displayed their wares.

The book fair had been favourably received. "At least 10,000 people visit every day." T. Prabhushankar, Collector, who visits the book fair almost daily, adds, "Arrangements are in place for people to spend at least two to three hours."

Given the importance of encouraging pupils to read, he stated that schools in and around Karur had been instructed to take advantage of the opportunity to visit the book fair. Dr. Prabhushankar stated that, in addition to school cultural programmes, arrangements had been made to organise talk shows and lectures by notable individuals in the evening.
